The treatment of ED was most commonly prescribed for men over the age of 60 years. In the United States, the ED treatment market has seen an increase in the use of ED drugs, and ED drugs are expected to continue to grow in the future (2).
The present study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the first FDA-approved ED medication, Viagra®, in the treatment of ED in men over the age of 40, and to provide guidance on the efficacy and safety of this ED treatment.
This study was a descriptive, cross-sectional study at the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine (UCSCS) of the Health Technology Assessment Program (HTAP) conducted by the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS) (3). The study was conducted in two parts, with part one, which included a pilot study and a real-world study (part two). The pilot study used the same survey instrument (22 questions and a maximum of 30 questions) as the real-world study and included a cross-sectional population (7.4%).
Part three of the pilot study was conducted by the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine, with the same survey instrument (22 questions and a maximum of 30 questions).
